I sat down with the Corporate Monkeys and sipped some tea with my good friends over at Blue Tea Games. They have been leading the way for Commercial Development of Games using MMF as their development platform. With over four titles alone published to Big Fish Games. We just had to know what makes them tick and we wanted to ask them what they felt was the key to their success.
Blue Tea Games and crew have also just released their latest creation "Forgotten Lands: First Colony" their fourth title to be released through Big Fish Games , Blue Tea's Publishing partner to the casual Game Market. This beautifully done RTS Casual Game hybrid shows that MMF is capable of many a great thing. We asked them a bit about their development process on this new exciting title, Read on...!
-Where did you come up with the Name Blue Tea Games?
It was a name
I randomly picked in college when brainstorming with the roommates. I
didn't expect that company to last past graduation.
-How long have you been developing games?
I Started Developing games at the tender age of 11!
-What got you into Game Development?
My close friend bought a used copy of KnP from a computer store back
then. We used to make imaginary games with paper before that.
-What was your first Project you ever completed ?
It was called HeliumMan created some 7 yrs ago. you can still find screen shots and information about the game online.
-What is you favorite Game and why?
Mass Effect. Engrossing story, intelligent dialogue, excellent battle system.
-Can you provide some details about your team?
I work in a virtual office and I correspond with my team across the world.
-For those potential Game developers whom wish to develop on a
independent Nature and not work for any one major studio, What do you
believe their Income expectations can be, how difficult has it been for
you to succeed in the market place?
It varies from developers to
developers. Most of them barely make anything, some can only work part
time, and a few can do this full time. I am lucky to have funding from a
publisher to make these games, but it's a challenge and expectation
always run high.
-Tell us all about your new Project "Forgotten Lands: First Colony"
It's an RTS game, due to my procrastination in answering these questions, it's currently released.
-How did you get started on your new RTS "Forgotten Lands: First Colony, what was the driving influence leading to its Development?
Wanted to create something new and engaging in the casual market.
-On
you new RTS game "Forgotten Lands: First Colony" can you tell us what kinda of challenges you
have had in taking the RTS genre and making it fit into the more casual
market, and how did you overcome those challenges?
The Biggest
challenge was the fact it is an RTS. I didn't know if it could be done
in MMF2. I got Olle to join on board and together we tackle the game
bit by bit.
-Can you provide some details about your team?
I work in a virtual office and I correspond with my team across the world.
-In using MMF what kinda of Advantages or disadvantages have you come up against and if disadvantages how do you over come them?
MMF2 is quick, easy and powerful - good enough for casual games. The
disadvantages aren't such a big deal, though I'm anxiously waiting for
the HWA and Java build to past through beta
-In developing multiple titles for Big Fish Games, Can you share with
potential Commercial Developers some tips that would help them follow
in your footsteps of getting their title published through a
Portal/Publisher like BFG?
Develop your game and push it out on
the market yourself. Once publishers see you can self fund and complete
a title, they are much more willing to work with you.
-For those
potential Game developers whom wish to develop on a independent Nature
and not work for any one major studio, What do you believe their Income

Distribute the games independently - www.casualcharts.com list some major distributors as well as what game are being published on their catalog.
Nice interview. It's got plenty of answers to the questions I've been looking to ask myself. Just thought that the interview needed a bit more dialogue, felt like two people talking to themselves :P
